Cloviana Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Cloviana Ltd (“Cloviana”, “the App”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares personal information when you install or use Cloviana in connection with your Shopify store.
Cloviana provides an AI-powered SEO content service that turns your Shopify products and catalog into search-optimized blog posts and related content to help you attract organic traffic and increase sales (“the Service”).
Personal information we collect
Information accessed via Shopify
When you install Cloviana, the App is granted access to certain data in your Shopify account through the following Shopify API scopes:
read_products,write_products: Access and update product information so content can reference accurate product details and links.read_content,write_content: Access and publish blog posts, pages, and other content to your online store.read_themes,write_themes: Read and update theme-related content or templates as needed to support how generated content appears on your storefront.read_online_store_navigation,write_online_store_navigation: Read and update navigation menus so generated content can be correctly linked or organized.read_locales: Access localization settings to generate or display content in appropriate languages or locales.read_metaobjects,write_metaobjects: Access and manage metaobjects to store or structure generated content and related SEO data.read_script_tags,write_script_tags: Manage script tags needed to deliver parts of the Service, such as analytics or app integrations.
Through these scopes, we may access the following types of data from your Shopify store:
- Store catalog information, including products, collections, and related metadata.
- Existing blog posts, pages, and articles.
- Storefront navigation structure and relevant theme or content settings.
At this time, Cloviana does not intentionally use Shopify customer or order scopes, and the Service is designed to operate on catalog and content data rather than individual buyers’ personal information.
Information collected directly from you
In addition to data accessed through Shopify APIs, Cloviana collects the following information directly from you when you connect your store or use the Service (for example, via app.cloviana.com):
- Store name and Shopify store URL.
- Store-associated contact email address (for example, the owner/admin email you connect to the app).
- Any preferences or configuration settings you provide inside the app (such as content settings, SEO preferences, or scheduling options).
Usage data and analytics
When you use the App, we also collect certain technical and usage information to help operate and improve the Service, which may include:
- Device and browser information (such as browser type and version).
- IP address and general location inferred from IP.
- Dates and times of access, app pages visited, and actions taken in the app interface.
- Aggregated information about how generated content is used or performs (for example, which features are used most frequently).
We use analytics tools to collect and analyze some of this usage data for our own analytics.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cloviana may use cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage or tags) in the app interface to:
- Keep you signed in and manage your session.
- Remember your preferences and settings.
- Understand how the App is used, so we can improve performance and usability.
You can usually configure your browser to refuse all or some cookies, or to alert you when cookies are being set. If you disable or refuse cookies, some parts of the App may not function properly.
How we use your personal information
Cloviana uses the information described above for the following purposes:
- To provide and operate the Service, including:
- Generating AI-powered SEO content (such as blog posts) based on your catalog and store configuration.
- Publishing or updating content in your Shopify store in accordance with your instructions.
- Configuring navigation or metaobjects where needed to deliver the Service.
- To communicate with you, including:
- Sending service-related messages, onboarding information, and updates about new features or changes to the App.
- Responding to your support requests, questions, or feedback.
- To maintain and improve the App, including:
- Monitoring performance, usage, and trends.
- Debugging, troubleshooting, and enhancing reliability and security.
- To manage our business, including:
- Administration, billing, and account management on our own platform.
- Enforcing our terms and policies and protecting our rights.
Cloviana does not use individual store customers’ personal information for its own marketing purposes, and the Service is currently designed to work primarily with store catalog and content data.
AI processing and third-party service providers
To deliver the AI functionality and supporting infrastructure for Cloviana, we rely on third-party providers that process data on our behalf, under appropriate contractual safeguards:
AI providers:
- Groq: Used to run large language model inference for generating content quickly.
- Gemini (Google): Used to support certain AI functionality.
Hosting and infrastructure:
- Microsoft Azure: Used to host and operate the Cloviana application and related infrastructure in data centers located in the United States.
Email and communications:
- SMTP2GO: Used to send transactional emails related to your use of the Service.
- Smartlead: Used for email outreach to merchants, for example to share information about Cloviana or invite prospective users to try the Service.
Analytics:
- Analytics services may be used to collect and analyze usage information about how users interact with the App.
Cloviana does not intentionally send store customer personal information (such as buyers’ names, email addresses, or shipping addresses) to AI providers as part of content generation. The prompts and data sent to AI providers are primarily based on catalog, content, and configuration data you maintain in your store or set in the App.
Sharing your personal information
Cloviana may share personal information in the following circumstances:
- With service providers and subprocessors that support the operation of the App and the Service, including the AI providers, hosting providers, analytics providers, and email delivery services listed above. These providers are allowed to use the data only to perform services for us and are subject to contractual confidentiality and security obligations.
- With Shopify, to the extent necessary to operate the App within the Shopify ecosystem and comply with Shopify’s app and data protection requirements.
- In business transfers, such as a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, where your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to continued protection consistent with this Policy.
- For legal, safety, and compliance reasons, including:
- To comply with applicable laws and regulations.
- To respond to lawful requests, such as subpoenas, court orders, or government inquiries.
- To protect the rights, property, or safety of Cloviana, our users, or others.
Cloviana does not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.
Behavioural advertising and marketing
Cloviana does not currently use store customers’ personal information for behavioural targeting or remarketing campaigns. The App may use email outreach tools to contact merchants and prospective merchants about Cloviana and related offerings, using contact information you provide or that is available through legitimate business channels.
You can opt out of receiving marketing emails from Cloviana at any time by following the unsubscribe link in the message or by contacting [email protected].
If Cloviana later adopts remarketing or targeted advertising technologies that rely on personal data, this Privacy Policy will be updated to describe those practices and provide appropriate opt-out options.
International data transfers
Cloviana Ltd is registered and based in the United Kingdom, while core hosting and infrastructure for the Service are located in the United States and may also involve other locations where our processors operate. As a result, your information may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your country of residence, including countries that may have different data protection laws.
Where required by applicable law, Cloviana uses appropriate safeguards to protect personal information transferred internationally, which may include contractual protections or other mechanisms permitted by law.
Data retention and deletion
Cloviana retains personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Service to you and to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. In general:
- Merchant account information (such as store name and contact email), configuration data, and content generated through the App are retained while your account remains active.
- When you delete your Cloviana account or uninstall the App and instruct us to remove your data, Cloviana deletes or anonymizes associated merchant account information and generated content stored on our systems, subject to any data we must retain for legal, accounting, or security purposes.
- Technical logs and analytics data may be retained for a limited period to support security, troubleshooting, and analytics and are then deleted or anonymized.

Your rights
Depending on where you are located and which data protection laws apply, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information. These rights may include the right to:
- Access personal information we hold about you.

- Request a copy of your personal information in a portable format.
Cloviana will respond to such requests in accordance with applicable laws and, where appropriate, in coordination with the relevant merchant (for example, where Cloviana processes data on behalf of a Shopify store).

Security
Cloviana uses technical, organizational, and administrative measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. These measures include using reputable cloud infrastructure providers, restricting access to data to personnel and subprocessors who need it to perform their duties, and using encryption or other safeguards where appropriate.
No method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and Cloviana cannot guarantee absolute security. However, Cloviana works to continuously monitor and improve the security of the Service.
Children
Cloviana is intended for use by businesses (merchants) and is not directed to children. Cloviana does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If Cloviana learns that personal information from a child has been collected inadvertently, reasonable steps will be taken to delete such information as soon as possible.
Changes to this policy
Cloviana may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App, the Service, or applicable laws. When changes are made, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will be revised. In some cases, Cloviana may also provide additional notice (such as by email or in-app notification).
Your continued use of the App after any changes to this Privacy Policy becomes effective will signify your acceptance of the updated Policy.
